MINUTES – SWORDFISH ASSOCIATION BIANNUAL MEETING HELD IN VPI CENTRE AT 09 30 HRS ON 07 APR 07

INTRODUCTION

1.         Welcome.  The Chairman welcomed all.  Action Items from Feb 06 Meeting were reviewed and it was noted that a number of initiatives were nearing completion. Items that were not completed are discussed below and will be included in an updated action list (Annex A).

2.         Update of Activities.   Committee members provided a summary of their activities over the past six months.  Concern was expressed that the absence of a master list of artifacts had not yet been promulgated.  Committee members were pleased with recent upgrades to the website.  All members continued to seek out and encourage former Swordfish to join the association.

3.           Alumni List:   Capt Serge Parisien compiled and distributed an updated Alumni list.

4.   SA Historian. Maj Chris Larsen volunteered to act as the Association Historian.  He has been working on the development of an updated Squadron History on CD Rom.  He is awaiting final input on the most recent history from Col Yvan Boilard.

5.         Membership Coordinator.  Capt Tyler Thorbergson has volunteered for this position.  He will coordinate the input of all new members to the alumni list and advise the Chairman accordingly.

6.        Artifacts held by 405 Sqn.  Secretary to forward a consolidated list of 415 Sqn artifacts held at 405 Sqn to Mr. Goski.  This list will be combined with the master list of artifacts and circulated to the committee.

7.     Sam Chiles Library.  There is a need to produce a comprehensive catalogue of the library content to ensure it is maintained as intended by Mr Chiles.  List to be provided as per note 5.

8.        Maintenance of the Ball Room in 405 Sqn.  CO of 405 Sqn has agreed to maintain this room as a tribute to its sister Sqn.

9.          Financial Statement:  The treasurer delivered an annual financial statement.  It was found to be a complete and accurate reflection of the current financial status.  This report is to be posted to the website.

10.           Website:  The website coordinator has secured a 2 year registration of the site.  He will also update the structure of the site over the next few months.  It has been determined that the translation of the website is not sustainable.

11.           The action list at Annex A was reviewed and confirmed.  There being no further business, the biannual meeting of the SA was adjourned.

12.            The scheduling of the next SA meeting is to be determined with initial estimate of August 2007 at Greenwood.

Annex A

ACTION LIST (SWORDFISH ASSOCIATION MEETING 07 APR 2007)

 

1.                The following are the actions required by various members of the Swordfish Association (SA) in response to the meeting of 07 Apr 2007.

 

2.      Sqn History Officer, Maj Larsen, to complete and forward by Oct 07 a CD Rom containing an update copy of the 415 Sqn History.

 

3.      LCol McBride will be asked to post for sale items, from the 415 Sqn Kit Shop, on his website – completed.

 

4.      Members will be asked to send a memorial photos with small caption to be posted on the SA website.  Chairman to initiate call.

 

5.      Swordfish Tails:  Investigate the feasibility of acquiring these articles so that a complete listing can be compiled and catalogued.  Maj Larsen and Capt Stover to try to locate this information.

 

6.      The Birchill Training Center – cadet training classroom to be renamed the 415 Sqn Room.  The Cadet Sqn is looking for artefacts to display.  Artefact/museum LO to contact Colonel Handley.

 

7.      A visit counter is to be established and placed on the website to monitor hits.

 

8.      A 415 Sqn CWO’s list is to be compiled by Maj Larsen and CWO Philips.

 

9.      A letter is to be sent to former CO’s of 415 asking them to write an ISR related article that can be posted to the website.  Have already received a positive response from Col John Ambler.  This will be posted on the SA website.
